How voting and reputation work

What up and down votes mean, what counts as manipulation, and how members build a track record.

Voting & reputation · Updated Nov 2, 2026

Votes are how the PriceTrim community separates real deals from the rest. Reputation is how members build a public track record over time.

How voting works

  • Each member gets one vote on each deal: up or down.
  • Vote up when a deal is a genuinely good price, worth sharing and accurately described.
  • Vote down when a deal is not a real discount, is misleading, has expired or hides a catch. A short comment explaining why helps the poster and other shoppers.
  • Vote on the deal, not on whether you personally want the item. A great price on something you do not need is still a great price.

What votes affect

A deal's score comes from community votes. Strong positive scores and recent activity help a deal rise and appear in trending. Low scores push it down. Affiliate commissions and sponsorships have no effect on votes, and the PriceTrim team does not sell votes or change them for anyone.

What counts as vote manipulation

  • Voting from more than one account.
  • Asking friends, coworkers or followers to vote on your deal.
  • Trading votes, or paying or being paid for votes.
  • Organized downvoting of a member or a store.

Manipulated votes are removed, and the accounts involved may be suspended or banned.

Reputation

Your reputation reflects your contributions to the community. It grows when other members vote up your deals and comments, and when your posts hold up after people check them. It goes down when your posts are removed for breaking the rules. Your reputation shows on your profile, so other members can see your track record when they read your deals.

Reputation cannot be bought, transferred or earned by sponsoring anything, and it has nothing to do with affiliate links.

Comments count too

Many of the most useful contributions on PriceTrim are comments: a lower price somewhere else, a code that works, a warning about a seller, an answer to someone's question. Helpful comments earn votes and reputation just like deals.

Good habits

  • Check the deal before you vote, especially on a price that seems too good.
  • Explain a down vote in a comment when you can.
  • Correct your own posts quickly. Owning a mistake builds more trust than a perfect record.
