Affiliate links and how PriceTrim makes money

Some links on PriceTrim are affiliate links. If you buy through them we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Commissions never influence community votes or rankings.

That is the short version. Here is what it means in practice.

What an affiliate link is

An affiliate link is a link to a store that tells the store the visit came from PriceTrim. If you buy something after following it, the store, or an affiliate network working with the store, may pay PriceTrim a small commission. You pay the same price you would pay if you went to the store directly.

Which links may be affiliate links

• Most links from PriceTrim to stores may be affiliate links, including links in deals that members post. We may convert a store link a member posted into an affiliate link.
• Where we can, we mark affiliate links with an Affiliate badge. Because most store links may be affiliate links, it is safest to assume any link to a store could be one.
• Members may not add their own affiliate or referral links. Only PriceTrim's links can earn a commission.

What commissions do not change

• The price you pay.
• Community votes, scores or whether a deal is trending.
• Which deals members can post and which comments stay up.
• How the PriceTrim team moderates the site or chooses staff picks.

Sponsored placements are different

Stores and brands can pay PriceTrim for a sponsored placement. Sponsored placements are always labeled Sponsored, appear in designated places, and are kept separate from community scores. A sponsor cannot buy votes, change a deal's ranking or remove comments. See deal types explained.

Staff picks are never sold

Staff picks are chosen by the PriceTrim team because we think a deal is worth a look. No one can pay to become a staff pick. A staff pick may still contain an affiliate link, and if it does, it is labeled like any other.

Cookies and tracking

When you follow an affiliate link, the store or affiliate network may use a cookie or similar technology to record that your visit came from PriceTrim. That is how a purchase gets credited. You can manage cookies in your browser settings, and our privacy policy has more detail.

Why we tell you this

You deserve to know how a site makes money before you trust its recommendations. Affiliate commissions and labeled sponsorships let us run PriceTrim for free while keeping the community's votes in charge of what rises.
