Deal types explained
Community deals, affiliate deals, sponsored placements, staff picks and trending: what each label means.
Not every deal reaches the page the same way. Labels tell you how a deal got there, so you can judge it for yourself.
Community deal
A deal shared by a member. Most deals on PriceTrim are community deals. Where a community deal appears depends on member votes and activity, not on money.
Affiliate deal
A deal whose link to the store is an affiliate link. If you buy through it, PriceTrim may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Look for the Affiliate badge; hover over it or tap it for a short explanation.
An affiliate link never changes a deal's votes, score or ranking. Members vote on affiliate deals exactly as they vote on any other deal, and an affiliate deal that is not a good price will sink like any other.
Sponsored placement
A spot that a store or brand paid for. Sponsored placements are always labeled Sponsored. They appear in designated places and are kept separate from community scores and rankings.
A sponsor cannot buy votes, cannot move a community deal up or down, and cannot remove a deal or a comment. If a sponsored offer turns out to be misleading, members can comment on it and report it like anything else.
Staff pick
A deal the PriceTrim team chose to highlight because we think it is worth a look. Staff picks are chosen by people on our team and are never sold. A staff pick can still have an affiliate link, and if it does, it carries the Affiliate label too.
Trending
A deal getting a lot of recent community attention, such as votes and comments. Trending comes from member activity alone. It cannot be bought, and sponsored placements do not count toward it.
A deal can carry more than one label
A community deal can have an affiliate link and also be trending or a staff pick. A sponsored placement is always labeled Sponsored, whatever else is true about it.
